Terms of Service
Last updated: July 2026
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create a self-serve VibeKoala account. Teachers who invite younger learners into a classroom are responsible for parental or guardian consent and for complying with applicable Hong Kong PDPO rules and any school policies. The platform does not yet provide parental-consent tooling.
Bring your own key (BYOK)
VibeKoala does not provide unlimited AI inference. You may authorize us to call third-party AI providers (OpenRouter, Hugging Face, Poe, Pinecone, ElevenLabs, and others) using API keys you provide (BYOK). You pay those providers directly and are bound by their terms. Each chat message, tool invocation, generation, and validation may consume tokens or credits on your provider account. Content you submit (including student messages and material text) may be transferred outside Hong Kong to those providers.
Hosted subscription allowance
Teachers who choose platform subscription (pilot or paid Tutor Pro) may use a platform-hosted inference key within a monthly token allowance. Pilot quotas are limited and may change. Paid plans renew monthly via Stripe; when a subscription is canceled or unpaid, local paid entitlement ends and usage falls back to the pilot rules (or BYOK). Token caps inside each classroom (daily room / student / builder caps) still apply on top of the monthly allowance.
You can manage or cancel a paid subscription through the Stripe Customer Portal linked from Account → Subscription & billing. Course catalog tiers marked Extra may require a paid plan or a one-time course pack purchase before applying the course to a classroom.
Classroom usage
Teachers who create classrooms may configure whether their key or each student's key pays for inference. Teachers are responsible for setting token budgets and monitoring usage in their classrooms, and for lawful collection and use of student personal data in those classrooms.
Materials and copyright
When you upload or paste materials, you represent that you have the rights (or licences) to use them on the platform and to allow processing by AI providers as described in the Privacy Policy. Do not upload content you are not permitted to use (including third-party textbooks or exam materials without authorisation). You agree to remove materials upon notice of a credible infringement claim.
User content and acceptable use
- Do not share API keys with other users through the platform.
- Do not use the service to abuse provider rate limits or circumvent provider terms.
- Do not post or disclose others' personal data in a way that may cause harm (including doxxing). Message boards may be moderated; we may remove content and respond to lawful notices, including Privacy Commissioner cessation notices where applicable.
- Teachers must comply with applicable laws when using AI with students, including Hong Kong PDPO privacy rules for minors.
Research classrooms
Teachers who enable research study mode must provide a valid institutional ethics approval reference (e.g. EdUHK HREC). They are responsible for ensuring participants receive the participant information sheet and provide informed consent before data collection. The principal investigator named in room settings is responsible for study conduct.
Students in research classrooms must confirm all consent checkboxes before joining. AI tools process inputs and interactions may be logged for research. See our Research Participation page and privacy policy.
Published tools
Tools you create or publish via Vibe Builder or the external MCP server run under your responsibility. High-risk tools require teacher approval before execution in classrooms.
Termination
You may remove your API keys at any time. To close your account and request deletion of personal data, contact hello@vibekoala.ai. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms. Deletion is subject to classroom retention needs, billing records, and legal obligations as described in the Privacy Policy.
